Why is the dollar used in Australia, when Australia is one of the members of the Commonwealth?

Friday, September 4th, 2009

I’ve been wondering about this for some time now.
I asked an English guy the same question and he said he thinks it’s because the Australian economy isn’t as strong as the British one, so their currency is dollar, not GB pound (because dollar is also weaker than GB pound). But still, why, when Australia is a member of the Commonwealth, an ex British colony?

What would you call a person of asian and australian descent?

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

I’m part asian and australian, and I wanna know if there is a term for it. I know there are chinese australians but that just means you were born in australia. I also know of eurasians, but australia is not in europe.
“A Human Being.

Stop labeling.”

Labeling? So calling someone American, European, or African is labeling? And what if there was another species out there in the gallexy and we called them aliens? Would that be labeling? ><

Should I take my degree (from the US) and move to Australia in hopes of finding good paying jobs?

Monday, May 25th, 2009

I heard that american four year degrees are valued there. Im a psych major but not necessarily set on working in that field. During this time of economic recession, it has been suggested that I move from the US to Australia to find work, but I cannot determine if this is a good idea. Are there opportunities for work there?
I assume they are more socialist with their healthcare so I would not have to factor in benefits when finding work? I am quite ignorant when it comes to any foreign country.

Why is Australia in a good position to avoid a recession?

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Lately on the news I’ve been hearing that Australia is in a good position to avoid a recession, why is this?… wouldn’t other country’s like the U.S.A the U.K etc…with a more “strong” economy be in a better position to avoid one, as compared to Australia. Yet the U.S etc… are in one but Australia isn’t. Why?

Are American house hold power points the same as Australian?

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

I live in Australia and just purchased a small power tool from america, which has a rechargeable battery. But the 2 prongs that came out of the charger to go into the power point are dead straight and parallel to each other, but my power point needs the prongs to be on a slight angle to each other to be able to fit in my power outlet. Can I get an adapter for this? What does an american power outlet look like, are they the same as Australian?
The tool is a lyman Power debburing tool.
