What qualifications do I need to teach English/ESL in Australia?

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

I’m thinking of immegrating to Australia and would like to know what teaching qualifications will I need to continue my career there.
I am already an ESL teach in England and have an MA in English Creative Writing + Trinity TESOL + City & Guilds Teacher Qualifications.

Can I get a job that will pay the rent and bills with those qualifications?
Can I convert those into Australiam qualifications?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Uhmm inferiority complex– a bit, any suggestions?
So I have been struggling with my life for two months now. ( transfer student = rumors/gossips/whispering/friendless).

Most of you have suggested to stand tall, walk confident, chin-up, be nice and be the best possible. I have thought about it, maybe that’s a good idea after-all? So any pointers? Suggestions? Advice on being confident despite you have this whispering people behind my back and despite having zero friends??? Thanks!

Do you really take the advice given here to heart?

Friday, August 21st, 2009

I mean, really? Do you listen to strangers who may or may not be pre-teens with nothing better to do?

Also, do you really get upset with your negative e-mails from people who are offended when you tell them the truth?

I give honest, educated answers and I am sure that most do not follow my advice. But, I was wondering how you all felt.

How to discuss poor performance with a new employee that happens to be an old friend?

Monday, May 11th, 2009

I recently hired a friend and have been very disappointed with his performance. Mainly his issues are with basic professional ettiquete. For example, he disregards emails and phone calls, has poor follow up on tasks, poor task completion rates, uses online chat a lot, takes multiple personal phone calls during the day.

Typically I could overlook some of these issues if the person was more productive and responsive.

Unfortunately this individual needs to set an example, and he is, but not a good one.

I am usually a very direct person but I am so taken aback by the lack of professionalism that I am not sure where to start. This person is not 20 years old and should be much more professionally evolved.

I hired him based on his skill set not because he was a friend.

If this person wasn’t a friend I would have no problems having this conversation, so I am looking for advice mainly on how to appropriately deal with an employee who is also a friend.
