What is the appropriate way to thank executives for a performance-based bonus?

A hand-written thank you card seems unprofessional. An email seems unappreciative. A business letter seems too formal. Is there standard etiquette for this?

    Don’t, they got a bigger one!

    The point of performance based bonus is that you earned it. And it will motivate you in the future, it is a tool.

    But out of the three I would send… ermm that’s tough.
